The Music Department provides a wide range of extra-curricular activities:

Concert Band

Pupils rehearse once a week after school to prepare for performances at the Annual Prize Distribution, Carol Service and the Spring Concert. In June, the Concert Band go away on a one night Residential to spend more concentrated time rehearsing to prepare for the year ahead.

Guitar Club

Pupils from all year groups are invited to join this club after school. The Guitar Club accompanies the Singing for Fun Club at the Annual Prize Distribution, the Carol Service and the Spring Concert.

Rock Choirs

Junior and Senior Rock Choirs meet separately at lunch times and together every morning at 8.30am. The two choirs come together to perform at the Annual Prize Distribution, the Carol Service and the Spring Concert.  On occasions they enter Choral Competitions.

Woodwind Ensemble, Brass Ensemble and Recorder Ensemble.

These ensembles meet at different times during the year to prepare for public performances and they also perform as part of the Music GCSE Performance examination.

Drum kit Club

This is a new club that will meet once a week after school next year. A limited number of pupils will be taught together at the start of the lesson and then dispersed around the department to practice on one of our seven drum kits in pairs.

Model Rock Bands

These Rock Bands are formed in the Music GCSE classes and the Music Technology AS and A2 classes. A younger Rock Band may be put together to perform at the Spring Concert. These bands perform in School Assembly and at Public Performances. They also are available to be recorded in the Recording Studio as part of the GCSE and A Level Music Technology Modules.

Singing for Fun Club

This is a newly formed club for pupils who enjoy singing for fun and there is no emphasis put on the pupil’s ability to sing. There is a relaxed atmosphere in the rehearsals that take place twice a week at lunch times. This club performs at the Annual Prize Distribution, the Carol Service and the Spring Concert.

Musicals

As part of our Musical Productions, pupils rehearse their singing parts in the Music Department in preparation for performing on stage. The Music Department works closely with the Drama Department, which meets once a week after school until 7pm for the term approaching the Performance. A special choir is usually formed to perform alongside the performers on stage. Extremely talented pupils may be invited to play in the Band alongside professional musicians.

Musicals that have been performed include:

  • Oliver
  • Annie
  • Grease (x2)
  • Joseph (x2)
  • Peter Pan (x2)
  • High School Musical
  • Sound of Music

Our next Musical will be “Annie” which will be performed in December 2012. Auditions for Year 8 pupils will take place in September 2012.
