For the past six months, 6th Form Science students at the Girls’ Model have been participating in the Sentinus Team Research and Development programme. Educational charity Sentinus recently hosted the ‘Big Bang Ballymena’ exhibition where more than 700 budding engineers were able to display and present their projects to a panel of judges. These projects were based on finding innovative solutions to current problems.

The science fair is a warm-up to June’s Young Innovators event which highlights innovation in Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM). Sentinus has been working with some of our A-level pupils to give them experience of research and development to help them improve their skills and ultimately, to consider careers in STEM.

Zoe McAloney and Samantha Craig, partnered by NIE, had the opportunity to show off their ingenuity with their pylon bird deterrent system which aims to promote bird safety. Well done girls!
