Belfast 2 Blanco 2018 – students prepare for experience of a lifetime

On Saturday 3rd February three students from the Belfast Model School for Girls will travel to South Africa with the Belfast 2 Blanco project, a group made up of young people from Ardoyne, Shankill and Falls areas and is led by Ardoyne Youth Club.

Girls’ Model students Codie Waite, Jasmine Taggart and Donovan Evitt will work in a township with the children and young people, facilitate a food drop to support the whole community and spend time supporting the local health clinic.  This year the project is also hoping to support the local creche and old people’s home.

The Belfast 2 Blanco project was created in 2013 after an international visit to South Africa by Alan Waite & Thomas Turley.  They had participated in a project based in Blanco, George with a group of young people from both Protestant & Catholic communities of North Belfast. On their return Thomas & Alan formed the Belfast 2 Blanco project that would see young people from Ardoyne & Greater Shankill avail of a lifetime opportunity to engage in a programme that would provide a platform to new learning.

The Belfast Model School for Girls would like to wish our students and everyone involved with the project all the best in their 2018 adventure, we look forward to following your experience throughout the next three weeks!
