Recently in English we have been developing our use of Linguistic techniques in writing. The students wanted to show off their skills so we decided to enter the Young Writers’ Poetry Escapes Competition 2019. Our theme was to write an Ode giving tribute to something or someone important in our lives. The students produced some very entertaining and heartfelt poems covering a wide range of topics such as: pets, music, unicorns, family and even curlers! This competition received in excess of 8,000 entries and I am delighted to announce that 6 of our poems were selected for publication. I am so proud of the following Year 9 girls for their success: Alexandra Tyrell, Abbie Forsythe, Brooke Blair, Myla Stewart, Kaitlyn Horner and Katie Adams-Hoy! Their work has been chosen for publication in Poetry Escape – Poets from Northern Ireland due to be released on 30th June 2019. Massive congratulations to all and keep writing!
