On Thursday 21st May we had a visit from some of the members of the Ulster Orchestra, who conducted a workshop with Year 8 and Year 9. They demonstrated their instruments and played some beautiful Disney tunes, and we helped by singing along. They taught us about the layout of the orchestra and the families of the orchestra, (which Year 9 already knew all about because their amazing Music teachers have taught them this!). The orchestra members were very impressed. Then they showed us how film music was written and how important film music was. They took a scene from Star Wars and took the music away and it was very boring and strange without the music. They also taught us about Foley sound effects and showed us how they were added to films. These are sounds made by humans, such as a sword being drawn or footsteps and they are man-made by a Foley Artist. The students also got to play some instruments, like the water horn.
