On Thursday 27th January, Belfast Model School for Girls finally returned to the football pitch after 2 years of not playing due to Covid19. A team consisting of Year 9/10/11 students took part in the first round of the Electric Ireland Junior Cup against Ballymoney High School at Ballymena Showgrounds. The match was end to end the whole way, with GMS having more attacking possession with many shots, either being saved by an outstanding performance from their keeper or off-target. At the final whistle, it ended 0-0, going into extra time. GMS went 1-0 up from a fantastic corner from Victoria and finished off in style by Lillie Horner. With 2 minutes to go, Ballymoney scored an equaliser, with one of their first shots on target, to take it to penalties. Unfortunately, penalties were not on our side and we lost 3-1. This was very unlucky as the girls played excellent football, from GK right up to the attackers. Special mentions go to Jorja Bryson playing fantastic at the back dealing with every ball coming her way, Jessica-Ray Morno, and Lillie Horner playing all over the pitch, defending, attacking and showing off some silky skills. A pleasure to watch! Onto the next one!
