From 26th to 30th June, 41 students and 4 staff journeyed to the Bay of Naples for a trip of a lifetime. The itinerary was jam-packed from the very start and included a triumphant climb to the crater of Mount Vesuvius, who gave out a puff of steam to celebrate their success. A visit to the ancient sites of Herculaneum and Pompeii revealed what life was like before AD79 in and around Naples, prior to the devastating eruption of the currently sleeping volcano. After two days of Geography, there were two further days of basking in the Neapolitan sunshine and taking in the stunning coastal landscapes of Capri, Sorrento and Amalfi. It wasn’t all go, go, go. There was downtime in the hotel pool and an evening of Italian food culture, learning how extra virgin olive oil and mozzarella are made, before getting dressed in our chef whites to create and bake our own pizza. Throughout the trip, the students were exceptionally well behaved, thoughtful, kind and considerate to each other and to staff and the combination of the sunshine, the scenery and the good humour contributed to them falling in love with Italy and creating lifelong positive memories of a fabulous trip.
