Studying at University

In Year 13, students have dedicated careers time where they can exploring their options on completing their A level courses –  including apprenticeships, employment and further and higher education courses.

Preparation for university applications starts in Year 13 with guest speakers from a number of institutions in Northern Ireland and GB delivering key information to students about studying at university and further and higher education colleges. Pupils also attend the UCAS Exhibition at the Eikon Centre where each of the UK’s higher education establishments is represented. The girls are encouraged to talk to as many of the visiting institutions as possible to help them to make an informed decision about their university application.

At the start of  year 13, students are encouraged to attend open days at Queen’s University, Ulster University and Belfast Met, traditionally the most popular destination for school leavers from The Model.

University applications are made through an online process with UCAS. The application procedure begins in May of year 13. Pupils are guided through the process step by step. Numbers applying to university have steadily increased and we are very proud of our many former students from the Girls’ Model, graduating from institutions across Northern Ireland, Scotland, England and Wales.
