On Monday 5th February 2018 the Lord Mayor of Belfast, Nuala McAllister, visited the Girls’ Model to speak to our Year 13 Public Services class about her current role.  The girls are currently studying Government, Policies and the Public Services as part of their course and the Lord Mayor offered to speak with the girls about the role and how the public services impact their lives.  The Lord Mayor was very open and relaxed with the students; she talked them through the different levels of government and also asked for their feedback on some of the events the council run.

The Lord Mayor gave a lot of information about her theme of a ‘Global Belfast’ for her time in office and she asked the girls for guidance on what young people want from their local council so that this can be tailored to suit their specific needs.  This visit was warmly received by the students, who returned to class eager to research their local councillors and uncover more about how government works and how they can become more informed and involved in the work that is being done around them.
