It was a very different experience yesterday when Year 14 and Year 13 students came to school to collect their A2 and AS results, with some girls choosing to get their results online. However, the sun was shining, we were all socially distanced and still there was much joy and many congratulations as students, their parents and staff celebrated another year of great success for Year 13 and Year 14 students. This year, once again, students at the school achieved truly excellent results, just as we would expect from such hardworking and committed students –
83% of students studying 3 A-Level/L3 equivalent subjects achieved three or more grades A*-C
100% of students studying 3 A-Level/L3 equivalent subjects achieved two or more grades A*-E
Year after year, the staff and students of Belfast Model School for Girls continue to overcome the many barriers to learning and to improve student outcomes, even in the midst of a world pandemic #gomodelgirls. As Principal, I would like to pay tribute and give thanks to the highly committed, caring and hardworking staff, Board of Governors and parents, who provide the necessary support and drive to ensure that the students of BMSG reach their full potential. Solid determination and industry, especially before the school closure, has brought dividends for the girls. Their results prove that self-belief and hard work really do pay off! We are aware that some students feel their ability, hard work and effort were not reflected in the grades received yesterday and we would encourage those students to appeal – please contact the school office immediately.
Most importantly, the students’ outstanding grades have allowed the girls to pursue careers across a wide range of professions, accessing degree programmes at Queen’s University and Ulster University, as well as going further afield to study in Scotland, England and Wales or taking up full-time employment. Helping our young people make their dreams a reality is the biggest reward for any school and teacher.
