Year 13 – English – Oracy October

Home  /  News  /  Current Page

During the month of October, we are celebrating Oracy in the Girls’ Model. Oracy can be seen as an outcome, whereby students learn to talk confidently, appropriately and sensitively. This morning, Year 13 were reading ‘Personal Helicon’ by Seamus Heaney. They had a fruitful discussion about how Heaney saw the wells of his childhood as sources of poetic inspiration. The favourite line of the class was: “I rhyme to see myself, to set the darkness echoing.” They discussed how Heaney wrote poetry to look inwards at himself and his history.
