Family budgeting/reducing food waste

Home  /  News  /  Current Page

Last week was Food Waste Action Week, and the main message of the campaign is that food waste feeds climate change. Many of us feel that climate change is such a huge problem that it’s hard to take individual action. Wasting less food is something we can all do to help the effects of climate change. Not only that, but the average family in the UK throws away the equivalent of £720 worth of food every year, so reducing food waste saves money too.Belfast City Council’s Resource Education and Promotions Team have produced an electronic Family Recipe Book featuring simple and tasty recipes for soups, lunches, dinners and desserts that will help you use up all the food in your fridge. It has information on how to store food to keep it fresh for longer and advice on how to plan meals to make the most of your food.To request a free electronic recipe book, please email wasteeducation@belfastcity.gov.uk.
