In March of this year, Year 12 student, Rowan Ross, travelled to Windsor Castle to represent Belfast, and Northern Ireland as a whole, at the UK Grand Final of the Historical Association’s Great Debate speaking competition. Her speech reflected on why history matters using the case of the Islandmagee witch trials, and concluded that different doesn’t have to mean dangerous. Rowan placed in the top 5 out of 28 competitors from across the UK, and received a highly commended award in joint third place.
