Belfast Model School for Girls were delighted to be contacted in March 2020 by the Belfast Charitable Society in relation to their Laptops for Schools initiative, funded by the Big Lottery. We gratefully received 45 laptops in April 2020, which meant that during lockdown 45 children had access to learning online, who without this project would not have had the opportunity to do so. Prior to receiving these laptops, children had been accessing some of the learning online using their mobile phones, but some of the platforms are not compatible and the screens are very small.
Our students are brilliant. They are very motivated. They are driven to succeed. They are very clever. However, through no fault of their own, nor their family, some do not have access to the same resources as others when schools are closed and they are therefore disadvantaged. This initiative has helped to resolve some of this inequality and we, especially the students. are most grateful.
