The Home Economics department recently celebrated national Healthy Eating Week 2018.  A range of whole school and department based activities and competitions were planned as well as the launch of our new School Nutrition Action Committee (SNAC) – a group of staff, students, caterers and parents who will now work together to raise the profile of healthy food habits across school.  First on the agenda was a competition to rename the dining centre as a restaurant – soon to be revealed!  In Home Economics practicals students made Healthy Fast Food Favourites including chicken popcorn, wholesome healthy pizza and spicy turkey burgers and a range of cross-curricular activities including the impact of media on food choices in English and healthy food raps in Music were delivered in departments across school.  The week ended with mystery tasting workshops in the canteen to encourage students to try something new with rewards of spot prizes.  A fantastic time was had by all so thank you for all the support – together we will become even healthier!

Yo it’s Katie, Codie and Kristen
And we like to eat a lot,
This rap is going to make us stop,
To help we’ll eat our five a day,
No fats, no sugar means no teeth decay,
You need to eat healthily,
or else you’ll get fat,
So how about you listen to this rap!
