On Sunday 18th November 2018, 12 Girls from Belfast Model School for Girls went to Ards Leisure Centre to compete in the Northern Ireland Schools Trampolining Championships held by British Gymnastics. We had girls entered into different age groups and from various difficulty categories from Novis, Intermediate and Elite. For most of the girls in the Novis section (beginners), this was their first schools trampolining competition and their first trampolining competition ever! They were fantastic! All girls completed their routines twice and performed brilliantly! Within the Intermediate section we had girls performing in two different age groups. Year 8, 9 and 10 Intermediate included Maddie Cunningham, Sian Walker and Charlee Wright which made a team. Their scores combined as individuals ensured that they were placed 1st in the teams sections! Also, within this section, Sian Walker came 2nd place. Cody Nesbitt and Lucy Wallace were then competing in the year 11-14 age group for the Intermediate category where Cody Nesbitt performed two outstanding routines bringing her into 1st place, beating another 21 girls to secure this! After a long day of waiting, Lucy Turner and Abbie Clarke were entered into the Elite category. This category consisted of some of the best trampolinists in Northern Ireland from all age groups. Both Abbie and Lucy completed two very complex and excellent routines, but Lucy Turner came out on top coming in in 1st place! Lucy Turner also received another price and trophy for achieving the highest set score for this category.

Any student who received a place individually or a team, 1st, 2nd or 3rd, will now compete in the next round of the competition which is Nationals. This will consist of students placed 1st, 2nd or 3rd all around the united Kingdom. This year, this event will take place in Northern Ireland and not in England.

 All girls, from all sections, and all age groups were absolutely fantastic today. It was a great privilege to have taken them to this competition and a real honour to have watched very talented and successful young women. A massive thank you to Mr McFerran who has been assisting me at trampolining on a Monday who came to assist me at this competition today. Also a huge thank you to Margaret Turner and Abbie Clarke for representing Belfast Model School for Girls on the judging panel today.
