It has been a difficult year for Art & Design Department due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Our Students have been restricted in a lot of practical art learning experiences but despite all of this they have been undeterred and have found creative solutions to overcome this.
They were unable to visit museums, or exhibitions in person so they visited virtually and were inspired by what we found.
They found new ways of looking and experimenting with what they saw through the lens of a camera on our phones.
They couldn’t access normal art materials during lockdown so they worked on what they had in our homes, using recycled materials, potatoes and coffee to make art!
We recorded demonstrations and put them on YouTube so that students could follow them at home.
They researched artists online and then recreated some of their work using stones, leaves and twigs.
Above everything else, they learned new skills, new ways of thinking and most of all they enjoyed making art as a way of making sense of what was happening around them.
Our Year 12, Year 13 and Year 14 students would usually have had their work displayed in an exhibition in school for their family, friends and teachers to see, however, this could not happen this year so we have put together a Virtual Exhibition.
We hope you are as impressed by their talent as we are. Enjoy!
