Soroptimist Public Speaking Competition

On November 22nd, three of Model students travelled to Stormont Parliament Buildings to take part in the Soroptimist Public Speaking Competition. Aman Nisar (Year 13), Grace Crowe (Year 11) and Eden Hayes (Year 11).

Students had to choose a topic from a set list, and our students chose the following issues:

  • With so much social media why are we all so lonely? (Grace)
  • United Nations predict it will be 300 years to reach gender equality – seriously! (Eden)
  • The internet and Artificial Intelligence have made us a more connected and democratic world. (Aman)

There were seven schools in attendance, with the Model School for Girls the only comprehensive school, and twenty-six students participating.

Our girls were flawless in their execution of their speeches, with great originality, fluency, passion and humour to boot! So much so, in fact, that Eden Hayes placed second overall! Furthermore, Eden and Grace are a year below the recommended entry age, so it is a real testament to how fantastic the talent of our students are that one placed in their first time entering!

We were complimented by so many audience members on the quality of the speeches and delivery, so the girls look forward to participating again next year!
