U16 NI Danske Cup

On Monday morning the girls had the exciting opportunity to play in an 11-a-side tournament at the Dub, Queens. Due to school PPE’s it meant that only Year 9 and 10 students were able to attend but this wasn’t shown on the pitch as the girls show plenty of ability and heart. To make things more challenging a tough draw put us in a group against Lagan College and last year’s winners Parkhall. The girls worked hard in both games and were unlucky only to draw the 1st game against Lagan 1-1 with a fine strike from Charley drawing us deservedly level in the 1st half. We pushed forward in the 2nd half but couldn’t get the breakthrough.

In our 2nd game, we played against a strong and well-organised Parkhall with both teams cancelling each other out in the 1st half. In the 2nd half, Parkhall took the lead with a fortunate bounce of the ball. The girls continued to push forward for the equaliser but in the final moments of the match, got caught on the break and conceded a 2nd goal. That unfortunately was the end of our run in the competition but overall it was a good morning out with lots of positives to take away and things to work on. We will be back next year, a year older and wiser, ready to compete!

Well done Mr Potts & Miss Johnston
