This week our students finally got their chance to prove their skills against the very best futsal teams in Northern Ireland. The Year 10/11 started their group with a couple of wins but saw a place in the final snatched away from them in the final game after a late goal was conceded meaning they had to wait on other results, which didn’t go their way. The Year 8/9 team again started well and won all six games in the group including a 2-0 win against the team they met in the final. After all the group games were played the top two would battle it out to be the overall winners and it was then a short wait to find out who we would play as a penalty shootout between two other schools with identical records decided who we would play in the final.
In the final and to have the chance to be crowned the best team in NI. During the final, we showed how good we were controlling possession and creating chances only to be denied by the post or good saves by the goalkeeper to keep it level at 0-0. We continued to push forward looking for that single goal to claim the victory but it never came and with no extra time it went straight to penalties.
Unfortunately, lady luck wasn’t shining for us on the day in the final as the Year 8/9 girls lost the final on penalties.
It was a fantastic achievement by all involved from the regionals to the finals and all of our students should be proud of their achievements with the 8/9 team not losing a single match to another other school over three tournaments. We hope they will take this form on to the rest of the football season!
