Due to the Belfast Model School for Girls’ past designation as a Specialist School in Digital Technology, the Digital Technology Department has developed an impressive array of facilities including; 18 rooms housing a total of 355 Windows PCs, 4 suites housing a total of 75 Apple Mac computers, 100 iPads available to students through a bookable service, as well as 3 departments having designated iPad allocation.   Every classroom is equipped with a teacher computer and Promethean Interactive Whiteboard. Mono-laser printers are available in every computer suite, with a number of additional colour laser printers throughout the school.

The Department offers Digital Technology throughout Year 8, 9 and 10  where pupils are taught a wide range of topics, including; Health and Safety, Word Processing, Spreadsheets, PowerPoint, Database development, eSafety, Desktop Publishing and Web design. We have also introduced Computing into Key Stage 3, in preparation for upcoming changes to the Key Stage 4 and 5 curriculums. In Year 11, all pupils will progress to study CCEA GCSE Digital Technology, or Cambridge Nationals Level 2 in IT. In Sixth Form there are two routes of study, CCEA Applied A-Level Digital Technology and Cambridge Technicals Level 3 in  IT.

Learners studying Digital Technology A-Level have had a 100% pass rate for several years.  We have had students in the top of the UK results. In 2008 we had three girls achieve grades within the top 10 of the UK, in 2010 Sarah-Jayne Pollock achieved the highest grade in the UK and in 2011, two of our girls achieved grades within the UK’s top 7.
