STEM – Events

At the Girls’ Model we raise the profile of the STEM subjects in school by having one or two large scale events taking place each year.  Recently we have had the Armagh Planetarium Star Dome visit the school for a series of lessons on Earth and Space.

The Institute of Chartered Engineers came out to the school to build a 40 foot long and 10 foot high suspension bridge with a group of Year 8 pupils. Being a girl’s school, it is good to address gender issues such as the widely held view that only boys go into jobs in science and engineering.   This activity gave the girls a thoroughly enjoyable experience and certainly left them with the idea that a career in engineering might be a fun and interesting a possibility!
